# PowerDNS-AuthAdmin > PowerDNS-AuthAdmin is a free, open-source (MIT), self-hosted web UI for PowerDNS Authoritative. It adds scoped role-based access control, OIDC / SAML 2.0 / LDAP single sign-on with group-to-role mapping, passkeys and TOTP MFA, a diff-before-apply record editor, DNSSEC / TSIG / autoprimary management, multi-backend support (standalone, primary + secondaries, multi-primary clusters), an append-only audit log and a built-in Model Context Protocol (MCP) server so Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other AI assistants can manage zones and records in natural language. It ships as one Docker image (ghcr.io/powerdns-authadmin/powerdns-authadmin) on SQLite or PostgreSQL. - Latest version: 1.9.1 (released 2026-10-17) - PowerDNS Authoritative versions tested in CI: 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, 4.9, 5.0 - Runtime: Node.js 24, Next.js, TypeScript - MCP server at /api/mcp (Streamable HTTP, personal access token as Bearer): list_backends, list_zones, get_zone, list_records, set_records, add_record, delete_records, create_zone, delete_zone - No telemetry, no CDN; works air-gapped - Independent community project, not affiliated with PowerDNS or Open-Xchange ## Site - [Home](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/): overview, screenshots, the MCP server ("talk to your DNS") and the Docker Compose quickstart - [Features](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/features/): full feature catalog - [PowerDNS-Admin alternative](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/powerdns-admin-alternative/): how it compares and how to switch - [FAQ](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/faq/): installation, versions, SSO, RBAC, clusters, MCP and AI assistants, API, security - [Commercial support](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/support/): 24 hour commercial support from Next Generation Networks (NGN, https://ngn.au/) - [Documentation](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/docs/): every guide, synced from the PowerDNS-AuthAdmin repository at v1.9.1 - [Full documentation as one text file](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/llms-full.txt) ## Project - [Source code](https://github.com/PowerDNS-AuthAdmin/powerdns-authadmin) - [Releases](https://github.com/PowerDNS-AuthAdmin/powerdns-authadmin/releases) and [changelog](https://github.com/PowerDNS-AuthAdmin/powerdns-authadmin/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md) - [Container image](https://github.com/PowerDNS-AuthAdmin/powerdns-authadmin/pkgs/container/powerdns-authadmin) - [Live demo](https://demo.powerdns-authadmin.org) - [Security policy](https://github.com/PowerDNS-AuthAdmin/powerdns-authadmin/security/policy) ## Documentation ### Architecture decisions - [Architecture Decision Records](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/docs/adr/): The 22 Architecture Decision Records behind PowerDNS-AuthAdmin: framework, auth core, sessions, CSP, migrations, backends, SSO providers and zone permissions. - [ADR 0001: Choose Next.js 15 + React Server Components as the framework](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/docs/adr/0001-framework-choice/): PowerDNS-AuthAdmin is a server-rendered admin UI with a public REST API, OIDC/SAML/LDAP auth, and a strict separation between server-only secrets and… - [ADR 0002: License under MIT](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/docs/adr/0002-mit-license/): PowerDNS-AuthAdmin is intended for community self-hosters and multi-team org IT. - [ADR 0004: Three-layer architecture (auth → RBAC → business logic)](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/docs/adr/0004-three-layer-architecture/): Web apps that mix authentication, authorization, ORM access, upstream API calls, and template rendering inside the same modules accumulate a class of… - [ADR 0005: Migrations are never auto-applied on app boot](https://powerdns-authadmin.org/docs/adr/0005-migrations-explicit/): Some frameworks auto-run database migrations when the app starts.
